DYOF Announces New Grant Recipients

Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund (DYOF), a member group of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, is pleased to announce its fifth round of grant recipients. The purpose of this fund is to provide resources for the long-term benefit of Dryden area youth through innovative and creative programs and activities that go beyond the basic educational requirements of public education. Projects should focus on cultural enrichment, academic achievement, and general youth development. Funds are not intended to replace support for educational and extracurricular activities that are generally funded by school budgets. Applicants must have sponsorship by a non-profit, tax-exempt group.

May 2005 recipients are:

  • $230 - Dryden Aquatic Racing Team (DART) for general support of the youth developmental swim program.
     
  • $300 - Dryden Winter Triathlon for Dryden students and community members.
     
  • $350 - Freeville United Methodist Church Youth Group to send youth to Rochester, PA in order to help rebuild homes damaged by hurricane Ivan.
     
  • $385 - Freeville Summer Camp Program to provide first-aid and safety training for youth serving as Junior Counselors and Counselors in Training for the summer recreation program.
     
  • $500 - Dryden Science Olympiad for purchasing supplies used by high school and middle school students participating in science-related competitions.
     
  • $600 - "Exploring Our Community" in Dryden Elementary School kindergarten to provide opportunities for students to see and visit community members in their jobs.
     
  • $650 - "Club Dryden" recreational "fun nights" to be held in September and December at Dryden Middle School sponsored by the Town of Dryden Recreation Department.
     
  • $1,000 - Dryden Music Boosters for bringing professional musicians and guest artists to the middle school and high school for concerts, workshops, and clinics.
     
  • $1,000 - National Junior Honor Society to send students to a national conference in Washington, D.C.
